Professional Development: AV Demystified for the Meetings and Events Industry
Tuesday 23 September 2008
This Professional Development session on held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre gave an effective insight into the technical production of events. This included planning, budgeting, the use of AV to enhance your event and exploreing the difference that AV can make. Our presenters Keith Wootton and Kealan Coleman from AV1 Audiovisual Productions set up a mini AV demonstration similar to what you would see at an Awards night and delegates got to experience hands on what it is like to sit behind the AV desk. Attendees also learnt how to use effective use visual display, projection, sound, lighting and all the elements that bring it together to create the show!
“Definitely the most useful industry presentation I have ever attended”
Josie Gruber, Events Manager

ClubMEA: Staging Connections Warehouse
Wednesday 8 October 2008
MEA SA members took advantage of the opportunity to show their creative flair at the MEA Networking Function at Staging Connections. The teams were supplied with a box of goodies from which they had to create a table centrepiece matching the brief our ‘client’, the Staging Connections judges, had set for them. In their teams they worked to draw our concepts, then worked quickly to create masterpieces using a range of items including flowers, feathers, wire, food colouring, mirrors, lights and of course lycra.
The final task was to select a salesperson from each team to ‘sell’ the concept of their centre piece to the judges.
Special mention must to go to Patrick Weaver (Visionzone) who allowed his team of ladies to dress him up as the centrepiece using feathers, glitter and mirror balls (pictured second from the left). Also to Sandra Klein’s (Adelaide Showground) team for the twisted silver wire feature which was described as a Japanese character symbolising good fortune (pictured third from the left).
Congratulations to the winning team, led by Lesley Woods (SAPMEA), who created a centrepiece called “Tapenpiece” with a Spanish flavour, the focal point being a giant glass of Sangria (pictured first on the right).
Thank you to the Encore Group for providing a tasty selection of hot and cold canapés, finished off by their divine mini mud cakes.
MEA SA wishes to offer their sincere thanks to Staging Connections and the Encore Group for their support of this ClubMEA event:

ClubMEA: Breakfast @ The Sebel Albert Park Melbourne
Wednesday 8 October 2008
MEA Vic had a great turn out on Wednesday 8 October with members getting out of bed early to join us for breakfast at the recently refurbished The Sebel & Citigate Albert Park Melbourne. During a scrumptious breakfast members were inspired and motivated by powerful messages on leadership from Troy Hazard and Chris Helder of O2 Speakers. After hearing from these two very sought after speakers members left with a new perspective on their role as a leader.
Special thanks to our hosts at The Sebel & Citigate Albert Park Melbourne, Audio Visual Dynamics for providing audio visual support and O2 Speakers:
