How long have you been an Accredited Meetings Manager? I became an AMM in 1997
How long have you worked in the Industry? For 20 years or so
What was your first job? My first job was as a secretary in London which was a great discipline and stepping stone into event management
Describe your current role: I manage Zurich's Sponsorship & Events team. As a team we are responsible for managing and developing Zurich's program of events to support business and marketing objectives. This includes a major corporate sponsorship as well as a busy calendar of national events for various business lines
What do you enjoy most about your job? Event management provides enormous opportunity to innovate and add value to the event and marketing experience and there's a real sense of achievement when everything is going to plan. There's never a dull moment in this line of work!
What do you enjoy least about your job? I find it frustrating when a small element of an event threatens to become an operational nightmare and we lose focus of the main business objective
What has been your proudest moment? It's hard to single one out as I gain an enormous amount of satisfaction from delivering events well and being appreciated for the expertise and value add
What has been your most embarrassing moment? I was behind a registration desk at a conference and while talking to a delegate tripped over a box and stumbled but managed to stay upright but the very next second fell over a chair flat on my face. Ever since I've insisted on tidy clutter free registration areas!
What are you looking forward to in the future? Bigger and better things!
What does being a MEA Accredited Meetings Manager mean to you? For me it's recognition of a level of professionalism, education and experience in the industry. The AMM Accreditation program has given me a credible qualification in my chosen profession. For me it's about peer recognition as well as a tangible demonstration of experience.
