Y MEA: Expand your Professional Network
Tuesday 2 September 2008
The recent Y MEA event at the recently refurbished Kings Cross Hotel was another winner with over 50 under 27 year olds gathering to listen to Julia Palmer, MD of BConsulted, a specialist in business relationships.
Terrific food, a great atmosphere and excellent networking with two lucky door prizes won on the evening. First prize of overnight accommodation in an Executive Harbour View Room at the Chifley Potts Point was won by William McCrea from The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Second prize was a $200 voucher for the Kings Cross Hotel Balcony Restaurant which was won by Emma Wager from Constellation Hotel Group.
Keep your eye out for details on the next Y MEA event, and if you have younger staff that would benefit from a great night of education and networking, make sure they register.

Y MEA: Career Development Breakfast
Wednesday 27 August 2008
Over 55 young industry members gathered at the stunning Acqua Viva on the Swan on Wednesday 27 August to discover more about the endless possibilities their futures hold in the vibrant meetings & events industry. Facilitated by Y MEA committee member Holly Siragusa of Perth Convention Bureau, our Y MEA attendees were given the opportunity to pose career related questions to our executive industry member panel – comprised of Debbie Ann Scott, Director of EECW Pty Ltd; Chad Daly, WA Area General Manager for Rydges Hotels & Resorts; and Paul Cumming, Executive Director of Phenomenon Event Services.
The Career development panel covered real life stories of how each entered and progressed through the industry, what drove our leaders to become who they are and what they do, the hurdles along the way and mentors that guided their career path. Our industry experts also handed over very useful tips for moving ahead such as how to stand out from the crowd, what skills are important in a manager, the importance of networking and meeting people and above all having a passion for what you do.
With great feedback from our attendees, the Y MEA WA committee would like to thank our special guest speakers for giving their time and our event sponsors Acqua Viva on the Swan, Staging Connections and lucky door prize sponsor Perth Zoo.
Y MEA WA’s next networking opportunity and Christmas celebration will be held in early November 2008 so if you wish for your staff to attend, ensure you send their contact details to Lisa Philps, Branch Development Officer WA to be included on the MEA database.
