PD - The Essence of Attracting and Retaining the Best People
Thursday 23 August 2007
The skills shortage and the emergence of Generation Y have had a significant impact on the employment landscape. But with it has also brought some clear opportunities for organisations within the Meetings and Events Industry seeking to attract the best and brightest talent in the future.
Penny Burke, the Director of Essence Communications will present this professional development session aimed at the Intermediate to Advanced level, for people with 3 years plus experience in the meetings industry. She has learnt that building greater commitment is the single most critical success aspect for any marketer, particularly commitment to a workplace. When all the power rests with the applicants not the hirer, it has never been harder to attract and retain the best people. Penny knows that true success lies in the ability to deliver functional workplace benefits, but more importantly, an inspiring emotional promise. The learning outcomes of this session include:
-
How to attract and retain employees
-
Hear what workers think is important at work
-
The five key philosophies of commitment in the workplace
-
Ideas for how to build a more engaging workplace brand

Curiosity Breakfast Serial – Age Is Never A Barrier To Success!
Be inspired at our next Curiosity Breakfast Serial as Amber Werchon, one of Australia’s highest sales achievers shares her success story over breakfast at the Perth Convention Centre on Thursday 6th September.
At the age of 23, Amber not only sold over $43 million dollars worth of property in one year, she was also the youngest person ever to receive Queensland’s most prestigious real estate award – the REIQ Salesperson of the Year. In the world of hard headed competitive real estate agents, Amber is a surprising phenomenon. At the age of 16 while still at school Amber purchased her first investment property by saving a deposit and having the rent cover the mortgage. Amber believes that one of the keys to success in her field is to “realise the client is your employer and that you are there to help them”. She is also a firm believer in training, working smarter, adopting better systems and developing a strong support base. Amber now personally employs 8 staff members to be able to obtain a work-life balance to sustain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Amber regularly speaks at conferences and participates in fundraising events within the community and is continuing her professional development through REIQ.
