How long have you been an Accredited Meetings Manager? Ten years.
How long have you worked in the Industry? Twenty years.
Describe your current role: I combine managing the strategic direction of the company with a very hands on roll in terms of the individual events we organise. I lead a very dedicated and professional team and I am involved in everything from business development through to the on-site management of events.
What do you enjoy most about your job? Being able to still be actively involved in organising major conferences in addition to managing the company. I enjoy meeting with clients and getting to know about their industry and I get great satisfaction from seeing months, often years, of hard work result in a successful outcome.
What do you enjoy least about your job? Dealing with people who are not totally committed to excellence. Fortunately, there are not too many of these types in the event industry – they just don’t survive.
What has been your proudest moment? Opening my own event management company would have to be my proudest moment. Winning an MEA Award for Excellence for Outstanding Operations Person comes a close second.
What has been your most embarrassing moment? I am too embarrassed to say.
What are you looking forward to in the future? Conexion has confirmed meetings up to 2010 and I am looking forward to working with these clients on their events. I have enjoyed building a new business from scratch and putting together what I believe is a great team. For me the future is about combining many years of experience with a passion for exploring new ways in which to provide great service.
