How long have you been an Accredited Meetings Manager? I was in the first "batch" of AMIAAs in 1993, then the first group of AMMs, when MIAA/MEA introduced the system in 1997 and have since applied twice to maintain my AMM accreditation.
How long have you worked in the Industry? Over twenty-five years.
Describe your current role: Managing the Business Events Council of Australia, a peak body of our sector which lobbies government for more recognition and funding. Also various writing and speaking engagements in Asia, and special projects within the industry.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The people and the places. The dynamic of this industry, and the possibilities.
What do you enjoy least about your job? Missed opportunities.
What has been your proudest moment? The recognition from my peers - a MEA Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual.
What has been your most embarrassing moment? Too many, far too many in an industry of spills and thrills. Perhaps insisting on going first to get it over with, at a Bungee Jump during a NZ famil visit, doing it, and then discovering none of my colleagues were lining up, since it was only meant to be demonstration jumping!
What are you looking forward to in the future? A national Australian Business Events Marketing unit, properly funded by government, refreshing Australia's BE brand in the competitive international market.
